1. Citlali Salazar – Crenshaw 2023
This was my first time seeing Salazar play and she stood out as a true point guard. She has good handles, dribbles under control and can break defense pressure. She’s quick off the dribble and comfortable getting to the basket. She has good court vision and can find the open player in transition as well as cutters around the rim. She’s a pass-first player. Draws the defense on drives and kicks the ball back out to the open shooters.
2.
Karen Garcia

Garcia has a strong slashing game. Able to break down the defense and get to the basket. Consistently able to draw contact and get to the free-throw line. She’s quick and keeps the defense on their heels. Good ball-handler and efficient running the offense. She can see the floor well. When she attacks the rim, she can find teammates in scoring position around the rim.
3.
Kayla Borgelt

Borgelt stood out as kind of a combo guard, but in the game I saw she was mostly playing point guard. She has good size for when she’s playing the point, a bigger guard. She can attack off the dribble consistently and draw fouls to get to the free-throw line. Comfortable as the primary ball-handler but also able to play off ball and look for scoring opportunities. Uses her size to be able to position herself well for rebounds.
4. Melina Wehrle – Palisades 2025
Wehrle is small, but quick and able to attack off the dribble. She pushes the pace well in transition. Does a good job of staying middle and finding players cutting to the basket along the baseline. She’s a pass-first point guard and doesn’t try to do too much. She keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt and does well instructing others on where to be. She’s able to get to the basket consistently but does have to finish a little stronger.
