Some of the best teams in the state, as well as Canada, showed up to see how much growth happened in the off season. While there was a lot of early mistakes and uncertainties, there were some amazing performances, both team and individual.

I got a chance to see the freshman go against the defending Division I State Champions, and she more than held her own. She was Lake Fenton’s best player, as a leader and a player. She showed a toughness in a game where the physicality was allowed to get out of hand.
The defending state champion played with a hunger that suggests that West Bloomfield is making it back to the Breslin. She is a strong, physical attacker off the bounce and has a smooth pull-up jumper. She is an intimidating defender as well.

Williamston was short handed on Saturday, but they are still a dangerous team. Leisya is a nice post presence that can beat defenders with finesse but still has the physicality to own the boards. Super smart kid on and off the court- kid has been accepted to John’s Hopkins.
The kid just has a nose for the ball on defense and is a methodical killer on offense. Her jump shot is pure and is more dangerous due to her quick first step. She has the versatility to play multiple positions.

The senior lost all of last year to a knee injury, but she played with abandon. Despite a lithe frame, she is able to hold her block position and finish with efficiency. She displayed great leadership and communication for her team.
The senior draws fouls like crazy, and she is automatic at the line. Teams are going to have to find a way to keep her out of the paint while still running her off the three point line, where she is a plus shooter.
