The race appears to be wide open this year and it should be an interesting topic of conversation throughout the season. I’m going to give you my current top 10 in this season’s race. Please comment and give us your top 10 as well!

Fegan would be the first small school winner in a while, but if someone can do it, it could certainly be her. She’s a matchup nightmare that can read her defender and attack any weakness.
#9
Detroit Edison has had 4 straight Miss Basketball award winners and Alston could certainly be next in line. She may not put up the huge numbers like some of those before her, but her game is just as dangerous. I think Alston’s last turnover was in 3rd grade.

Bowers is the centerpiece of a Kent City team looking to make a return to the state finals. With her steadiness with the ball and ability to shoot from behind the arc, she could come home with a state title and a Miss Basketball this season.
#7
If you had Carson at number 1 on this list, I wouldn’t tell you that you’re wrong. It’s not incredibly often that a true post player wins the award, but this could be one of those years. Carson is currently Prep Girls Hoops #1 ranked senior prospect.
#6
Boyke could be a very real threat to win the award this year. She’s a versatile forward that can attack outside-in as well as inside-out. As Boyke leads a talented Frankenmuth squad, expect her to build momentum as the season plays on.
#5
If Kincaid performs the way she did last season, I’ll be offended if she doesn’t have a set at the table of finalists. She flat out put up video game type numbers. Kincaid had opponents having double-double nightmares last year.
#4
Brown has that Miss Basketball vibe to her. She’s a veteran star that has been a namesake in the state of Michigan for years. Brown is so poised and makes such great decisions at the lead guard position.
#3
Petroelje is on the verge of shocking a lot of people this year. I don’t think some people realize how versatile and skilled she is offensively. She’s tough as nails and a great defender. Petroelje is another player who could gain a lot of Miss Basketball steam as the season carries on.

Wypych should be considered an incredibly serious contender for the award. She led her Rockford squad to the Division 1 semifinals and a very close loss to eventual state champion West Bloomfield. Her leadership, ball skills, and ability to score and distribute make her a great candidate.

We all saw what Dykstra could do in her team’s run to the state finals last season. She was absolutely terrific in the post season, putting up big numbers and simply making the team run like a well oiled machine. If she matches that play this year, she’ll be at the award ceremony.
