Stanley put together a great season as a sophomore for her squad leading them in scoring with 14 PPG while also ranking 2nd on the team in assists and rebounds on the way to the state championship. The crafty point guard is an overall leader with a higher ceiling than most. She is a good handler of the ball, passes off of two feet, shoots with balance, and has a good step through move when heading toward the basket that has been very successful. She plays the top of her high school’s 1-3-1 zone defense and really lives off of reading passing lanes, leading to several lay ups for herself and her teammates as they run the floor in transition. When she is open for a jump shot she has a good release with high arc. She may not be the most consistent at shooting the ball just yet but with time and experience, it’ll become more efficient. I’m excited to see what this team can do behind Stanley this season as they will return almost everyone from a year ago with deep bench experience to follow.
A player that really comes in under the radar for the class of 2024 is Ava Locklear Ava Locklear 5’11” | SF Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA of CCA High School, who is ranked at #25. The dynamic forward is an all around player maker for her teams when she steps on the court. She moves very well for her size at 5’11, she can make a consistent 15 foot pull up jump shot or drive it going either way toward the hoop while being able to finish through contact a majority of the time. Her basketball skill mixed with her aggression and athleticism pair for tough defensive assignment for whoever is guarding her. On the defensive side of the ball she needs to continue to do what she has been doing and just stay solid, blocking or altering opponents shots as they get into the middle of the lane. As the next two years play out I can see Ava stepping up in this state and become a big name going forward. She has all the tools to become better as time goes on if she stays dedicated and keeps on working hard during her offseason.
Brooklyn Love Brooklyn Love 6’1″ | PF Waterloo West | 2024 State IA makes a big jump into the top 10 at #7 for this update as her potential keeps rising. Love is a long and athletic forward for Hudson High School. She is a fundamental and strong player that gravitates toward the center position for her high school squad but has the ceiling to be a college guard at a high level somewhere in the future. The most prominent part of her game that stands out at the moment is how good she is defensively both on and off the ball. Recording multiple blocks a game on average and being a defensive stopper when needed during big moments of games is just the start of how good she can be. She has a nice looking jump shot when she has time to set it up but doesn’t settle too much for that look as she usually dominates the inside of the paint against whoever she is playing. In the future the interest in Love will grow as she shows what she can really do.
Highlights
Ella Sharar Ella Sharar 5’10” | SF Iowa Falls-Alden | 2024 State IA slides into the top 10 at #8 for this rankings update as the leader of Iowa Falls-Aiden High School for her junior year. Sharar is listed as the center for her team but plays more of a forward position that can move inside or outside depending on what is being asked of her. She has the ability to post up and finish going over either shoulder. She can pop out to the three point line against a zone and hit a jumper if need be or she can sit in the mid post and move around finding the open spots. At the college level she will be able to play the 3 or 4 spot depending on the program and if her shooting range will expand over time before the end of her high school career. This season she will do a good job showing a lot of coaches that she is a very diverse player that can bring many things to a program on both sides of the ball. Being a great basketball player and team leader in the end.
