When the playoffs start, it’s a one-game elimination so with that being said, over the years, the best team has not always won, you only have to be the best team on that particular day.
Summer Creek and Pearland are on a collision course to represent Region 3 in 6A and I don’t see that changing yet the improvement from Clear Brook both at Texas Invitational and most recently, Alamo City Hoops #ThanksgivingThrowdown tells me they could be a sleeper after their 49-43 loss to Summer Creek last night
I caught most of the 3rd and 4th quarters, the stream via the internet didn’t start when it was listed to so I came on board late yet the excitement from the game had me everything but bored as several players stepped up in key situations and here’s what I caught, special S/O the announcers getting the score as well as players names and numbers correct because I tried to look at another game, just didn’t work for me but here are the standouts I caught while watching
Jorynn Ross Jorynn Ross 6'2" | PF John Cooper | 2023 State TX -6’3 C (Summer Creek) 2023
Ross is showing more aggressiveness inside the paint, which was apparent as she went after the ball off the rim countless times on the offensive end to score. That will be huge as she heads to Pepperdine next season yet she is playing like she has unfinished business, which is good for her squad. Her defense was stellar, she even maneuvered around defenders to score
Zachara Perkins Zachara Perkins 6'3" | SF Summer Creek | 2024 State TX -6’2 SG/SF (Summer Creek) 2024
Perkins continues to PERK it up and what I’m enjoying is that she’s showing she can put the ball into the basket multiple ways. Yeah, she can drop the long ball, the midrange keeps getting better and she scores off the dribble both in the set as well as in the open court after playing the passing lane yet she did a move last night where she caught the ball on the block, sealed the defender and dropped the turnaround banker and with her length and wingspan, you ain’t gonna block it
Rezia Castillo Rezia Castillo 5'7" | PG Clear Brook | 2025 State TX -5’4 PG (Clear Brook) 2025
Castillo hit the go-ahead basket for her squad in the 3rd quarter after I watched her spearhead an impressive run to be in the position. The game has and always will start at the 1 and she continues to show she’s one of the top point guards in her Texas class of sophomores. She saw the floor under pressure and made good decisions but she also handled the ball under pressure and that’s saying a lot because I’m not the only SC that brings the heat
Chardell Terrell- 5’7 G (Clear Brook) 2025
Terrell was huge in the timespan I watched. She scored both off the dribble as well as dropped the pull-up jumper multiple times yet she also rebounded on both ends of the floor, against taller players, and did a good job defensively
Morgan Williams-5’9 G (Clear Brook) 2026
Williams is slowly but surely on her way to a hunnid percent and just watching her poise under pressure each game speaks volumes and will be complimentary to her teammates when part 3 of the season pops up
Kennedy Simpson Kennedy Simpson 5'6" | CG Summer Creek | 2026 State TX -5’7 SG (Summer Creek) 2026
Simpson is one of the top freshmen not only in the Houston area but Texas and one play told me a lot about how she continues to elevate her game. She blocked a shot in the backcourt, took the ball almost the length of the court and did a crossover at the top of the key, and finished on a change of pace lay-up, body control included
