The excitement began in the early afternoon with our No. 3 overall prospect in the 2023 class, Atlantic City forward Quanirah “Nir Nir” Cherry-Montague, who had narrowed down her college search to three schools: Ohio State, Penn State and Mississippi State.
In the battle of the states, Mississippi State and the Bulldogs pulled through as the No. 48 ranked played in ESPN’s Top 100 for the 2023 class nationally will be headed to Starkville next season.
Playing on the national circuit with New Jersey Sparks for AAU ball has gotten the 6-6 post player on the radar of teams everywhere and her stats speak for themselves, averaging a double-double last season and nearly three blocks a game for the Vikings during the high school season.
She’s one of the highest, if not the highest recruit that Atlantic City High School has had across both basketball programs and across all sports.

She’ll fit in well with new head coach Sam Purcell’s system at Mississippi State and should be one of the most feared forwards in the SEC in due time.
Later in the day, we had the highly-anticipated college commitment announcement of the No. 1 player in the 2023 class New Jersey as ranked by PGH NJ, Paul VI standout guard Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ .
Hidalgo went on SportsCenter Next’s Instagram feed to announce it and after a bit of trickery and playing up the crowd, she announced that she’ll be going to Notre Dame next season.
Hidalgo follows standout guard and fellow New Jersey native Olivia Miles as prospects from the Garden State who have decided to go to South Bend.
This is a more than well-deserved honor for the FIBA 17U World Cup winner, All-Conference selection and No. 5 overall player in the Class of 2023 as ranked by ESPN.
We’re going to be seeing plenty more of her this season for the Eagles, who are poised to be one of the best teams in the state once again and are the class of the Olympic Conference, overtaking Cherokee in recent years on the floor.
Hidalgo averaged 26.3 points per game as a junior for Paul VI, showcasing her talents as one of the most electrifying guards in the country and one of the best pure scorers we’ve ever seen.
Congrats to both Hannah and Nir Nir on their accomplishments and commitments!
