The GRC campus is beautiful, and I always love going to the west side of the state. Not only is Grand Rapids home to some of the best basketball in the state, it is also home to my favorite soup shop: Uncle Cheetah’s. I was favored with sunshine, soup, and great hoops.
Kanyla had a great day on offense, but I was intimidated by her ball pressure-and I was on the sideline. She just hounds ball handlers and turns defense into immediate offense, where she lives to draw contact. Her coached raved about her ability and play in travel.
Desrae is a very mobile big that would be a prize pickup at in today’s NBA. She has the ability to defend the perimeter while being a monster rim protector. She even showcased some dribbling chops and a spin move on offense.

Despite having a great day on the offensive side of the ball, where she showcased a smooth stroke and slick handles, she impressed me more with her defense. The Saugatuck pressure centered around her movement on and off the ball and really turned a close game around. The All Conference senior is a difference maker on both side of the ball.
Super high IQ defender. Mollie might have had my favorite sneaky play of the day. She was trailing the ball handler in transition and gave a slight nudge on the shooter’s hip; this little bit of distraction went unnoticed by the ref but caused the shooter to miss her layup. I’ve pulled the same move a lot, and it is not easy to avoid being called for a foul. She spent a ton of the time fighting for loose balls, which she won more than her fair share.

Her high school team lists her as a front court player, yet she played the backcourt on Wednesday. She is a very versatile player that plays passing lanes well and keeps players in front of her. She rebounds the ball like a big and pushes it in transition.
