Continue ReadingI love catching the freshmen for many reasons and although I missed Amanda Grate (Harker Heights) Anaya Williams and Gabby Alves from Clemens, I had a chance to catch several others throughout the event. Due to teams dropping out for whatever reasons, it messed my schedule up so for those that I missed, hopefully, I’ll get a chance to see you down the road, my EVENTS tab shows where I’ll be, yes I make it simple. I also missed Rilyn Grona Rilyn Grona 5'5" | PG Fredricksburg | 2026 State TX (Fredricksburg) after her team pulled out due to illness, I caught her over the club season and she definitely left a lasting impression.
Bella Flemings Bella Flemings 6'0" | SG Brennan | 2026 State TX (Brennan)
Flemings is not only one of the top players in Texas, but she’s also one of the top NATIONALLY and without seeing everyone out there across the country, I know where the bar has been set. I dropped #D1Lock which was elevated to #BCSLock before her first middle school game. Her “poise under pressure” JUST DID IT for me at an early age yet making the transition at the 1 had me SMH on just how good she’s going to end up. She already has a college-ready frame, attacks from everywhere, and finishes strongly yet her court vision in the set as well as off the dribble definitely stood out. She drops the jumper, and with a hand in her face, she rebounded on both ends and did a good job defensively
Morgan Williams (Clear Brook)
Williams was coming off a slight injury yet the keen eye from a “REAL EVALUATOR” showed me not only the potential of what’s coming but also showed her knowledge of the game and her ability to get hers in the flow’ I love seeing players “play the passing lane”, all it takes is desire and effort yet it’s not as abundant as it once was so she showed she could handle the ball after the steal as well as drop the pull-up jumper. She rebounded on both ends and even scored on putbacks
Isabella Robbins (Clear Brook)
Robbins has the right last name because her quick hands-on defense had her “robbin” the offensive player with steals. She’s an athletic guard with a more than solid upside and she showed a nice first step to attack the basket from multiple angles, as well as finished strongly after contact
Yasmeen Schmidt Yasmeen Schmidt 6'0" | SG Cornerstone Christian | 2026 State TX (Cornerstone)
Schmidt is long, her wingspan is impressive and she stands above “the magic number” which is 6’0 for the newbies as well as those who haven’t paid attention. With that being said, you need to pay attention to her at all times because she can flat-out drop it from deep, which I love to see from big guards, yet more importantly, so do college coaches and they offer scholarships. I already knew all of that, having been watching her for quite some time yet her putting the ball on the floor will only add to her repertoire offensively
Trinity Jackson (Hendrickson)
Jackson was a bright spot over the summer, she’s one of those players I didn’t know about and even though no roster was provided, I found out who she was, I only do that on special occasions. She has the inside-outside scoring down, she can overpower smaller players in the paint and blow by taller ones from the wing yet her midrange is going to create some issues because it will give her options on how to score and keep the defenders on their toes. Throw in that she rebounds on both ends as well as defends, so I’ll keep an eye out and my ears open
Rosanelly Pastrano Rosanelly Pastrano 5'6" | PG San Antonio Lee | 2026 State TX (San Antonio Lee)
Pastrano sold me over the club season after catching her initially at a showcase over a year ago and I go back to this article recently when I mentioned she needed to shoot more and her response had me floored. Well she understands how to run a team and control the tempo, she sees the floor quite well, under pressure included yet her ballhandling is also impressive as she maneuvers by defenders instinctively as well as effortlessly, Oh yeah, she can still shoot but those pinpoint passes in traffic are very nice
Honorable Mention
Leilah Rodriguez (Kerriville Tivy)
Lilah Yanover (San Antonio Lee)
