DMV POWER RANKINGS WEEK 12
Prep Girls Hoops Maryland high school team rankings are brought to you courtesy of the IH (Intelligent Hoodlum) is the alter ego of James Nichols. James has been involved with girls grassroots basketball for over 20 years as the director of Team Unique and The Real Basketball Report. James has also been a contributor with Next Sport Phenom and it’s message board as the IH ranking DMV HS Basketball for the past 10 years. James has a “unique” style that should provide information and entertainment. Rankings will be updated each Tuesday during the high school season.
The IH is back on the streets with a fresh top 40 for week 12. Notable changes? Roland Park takes a big hit after losing the IAAM Championship to St. Frances but, SFA only gains one spot for the effort. New Hope continues to be rewarded for skipping games against ranked opponents. C.H. Flowers leap frogs seven teams for their first appearance in the rankings and who the heck is Landsdown?
On Deck: The on-deck mob and it’s true significance to the IH—these are theoretically the teams who should be ready to move into the DMV top-40 teams at a moment’s notice (many are called, but fewer are chosen), but maybe more significantly, these ten on-deck teams constitute and contribute to what is in effect a de-facto DMV top-50. Here we go, sports fans:
Alphabetical Order: Winston Churchill (Potomac, MD), Coppin Academy (Baltimore, MD), Cosby (Midlothian, VA), Howard (Ellicott City, MD), Mt. de Sales (Catonsville, MD), North Point (Waldorf, MD), Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, MD), Western (Baltimore, MD), West Springfield (Springfield, VA), Walt Whitman (Bethesda, MD).
Weekly rant from the I.H.:
Questions of the season at this point, can SJC beat Riverdale or vice-versa? Does BMac have a chance to beat anyone else of relevance? Word on the street is that New Hope be faking on seeing the real bump-and-grind. Princess Anne, Woodbridge, and Edison holding it down for the Virginia public schools. PVI and NCA seemed to be locked into each other. Roland Park beat St. Frances twice, but SFA won the IAAM Championship game, so SFA has to be ranked above Roland Park. Once again, Sidwell the most underrated team in the DMV. Poly can beat a whole lot of Baltimore-area private and Catholic schools, as can Frederick. Freedom-South Riding is still undefeated… How did Flowers climb into the DMV top-40 after such a regular performance in the Title IX Tournament? Will Landsdown be a problem in the Virginia State Tournament?
